The Art of Hosting

22 Mar 2026

Hi there,

I’m Emma Stewart, a mother of three living in Maine with my husband, Tom. Our home is lively, often a bit busy, and almost always filled with friends and family, the kind of house where there is usually a table set and something being shared.

Hosting has always been part of my life. I learned it from my mother, who has a gift for bringing people together and creating the most beautiful gatherings. Growing up, our home was always the place where everyone came together, the table being set, candles glowing, and one last dish coming out of the kitchen just in time.

But what I remember most wasn’t the food or the decorations. It was the feeling. My mom had this way of making people feel welcome the moment they walked in the door.

Somewhere along the way, I realized I wanted to create that same feeling in my own home.

Although I studied English literature in college and became a writer, I’ve come to believe that hosting is its own kind of storytelling. Every gathering unfolds a story through the people you welcome, the food you prepare, and the thoughtful details that make an evening memorable.

Now I host for my family, my friends, and sometimes just because it’s Tuesday and we need a reason to gather.

Thank you Factory Direct Party for giving me this platform to share my experiences with you.

I should also mention something important: I’m not a perfect host.

I’ve miscalculated food, forgotten a dish in the oven, and worried about details that guests probably never noticed. But over the years I’ve realized that those little mishaps are often where the best lessons come from.

Each week I’ll share stories from my own hosting life, the things that worked beautifully, the things that absolutely didn’t, and the small tricks I’ve picked up along the way.

Because great hosting isn’t about perfection. It’s about creating moments that people remember long after the evening ends. I’m so glad you’re here.

— Emma
