Easter has a way of sneaking up on you. One minute it's still winter, and the next you're scrambling for baskets, table decor, and enough plastic eggs to fill the backyard.

Your Easter Hosting Checklist

2 Weeks Out

  • Finalize your guest list & send invites - even casual backyard hangs benefit from a headcount
  • Choose your theme or color palette - pastel classic, garden party, or bold
  • Order tableware, decorations & supplies - don't get caught with sold-out baskets the week before
  • Plan your menu & note any dietary needs - brunch, lunch, or dinner spread? Decide now so shopping is easy
  • Plan the egg hunt - how many eggs, what's inside, and whether to split by age group

1 Week Out

  • Fill & organize Easter baskets - label them now, future you will be grateful on Easter morning
  • Stock up on candy, prizes & egg fillers - mix it up with small toys, stickers, and coins alongside the sweets
  • Do a dry run of your tablescape - lay it out once to see what's missing before the day-of rush
  • Prep any non-perishable food items & drinks
  • Confirm RSVPs & adjust guest list if needed

Day Before & Day Of

  • Hard-boil & dye eggs - let them dry completely before about 30 minutes in the fridge
  • Set the table & put out decorations the night before so Easter morning stays relaxed
  • Hide the eggs - don't hide them so well you forget where they are! A quick sketch of the yard helps
  • Set up your photo spot or backdrop - a simple balloon arch or floral backdrop makes memories forever
  • Put baskets out & do a final walkthrough: food, ice, trash bags, paper towels, extra seating

Pro Tip: The Egg Count Rule

For egg hunts, aim for at least 10 eggs per child. Always have a backup stash hidden nearby. Kids get discouraged fast if the hunt ends in under two minutes.

More eggs = more fun, more memories.
